Now ive used quite a few anti virus software in my day and i stuck so far with Malwarebytes but im not here to tell you to download it just compare it to others ive used.
AVG free version
It comes packed with alot of security that most of the time is just annoying to work with like root killer and all the notification you get regarding whats turned off , as far as it is removing any virus or spyware it will get the job done if its not to infected but alot of the times it crashes .
Spybot Search and Destroy
The one most people get and the one i least recommend as im sure if you have used it you know how it crashes all the time!
now not saying its a bad program since its been out for along time its got some improvements that make it a good software but it has alot of bugs and hiccups but if you can work around them you are sure to be protected . I never liked its interface and to this day they have yet to improve on my taste for it but its some what user friendly .
MalwareBytes
This is by far a great free anti virus / spyware software ...why do you ask? well when all of the others have failed this one always seems to take out trojans on my computer that paid services like McAfee have not and its FREE now it doesnt scan automaticlly at least not the free version but if you run it atleast once a month im sure you will find your self with some junk it will remove .
It comes with 2 scan modes quick and Full the other one is locked since you need to pay for it so i dont include it since i have never used it .
